I really, really want to like the current administration, and I try very hard to. But I wonder how it's possible that John Ashcroft is still the Attorney General despite ridiculous, tactless statements such as this:

We are a nation called to defend freedom -- a freedom that is not the grant of any government or document, but is our endowment from God.

Is it reasonable to expect anyone from other countries (or even this one) to like the U.S. when this sort of thing happens? #
