The latest spare time project is figuring out how to write ImageJ plugins with Jython. Once I've done that, people who just want to do some image processing can do so, just like they did with NIH/Image, which is, of course, basically deprecated. Python is really a lot easier to write small chunks of code than than Java is; since compilation will be simpler, it should be more nearly as easy as NIH/Image's scripting language. We'll see what happens. #

Reuters tells us what we've always believed anyway: Boring, Passive Work May Hasten Death. From the article:

Amick's team found that people who spent their working lives in jobs where they had to make the fewest decisions were 43% more likely to die than people in jobs with a lot of decision-making opportunities, and the increased risk continued for up to 10 years after they left their jobs.
