This headbutt made me stop watching the World Cup final—despite having invested almost two hours of a beautiful Sunday on the Cape watching it to that point—because it made it completely obvious that both sides were just playing to take their chances on penalty kicks, and I had resolved hours earlier to avoid watching any penalty kick shootouts because they're dumb. The one penalty kick shootout I was ever in, in fourth grade, was won by my team. I made my shot. It seemed like a cool way to end a game involving nine-year-olds, parents having stuff to do on Saturday mornings and all...less so for the entire world's soccer championship. But it was a wonderful headbutt. And about 1,000,000,000 people saw it happen; how cool is that?
